Is the West Winning?

A tiny virus particle, had subdued china's global ambitions, and could have possibly plunged it into darkness. With the second major economy in doldrums, USA suddenly started appearing as the lone North Star, in the dark skies. The assertion by the Secretary of State Pompeo, that the "West is Winning", is far fetched, than based on facts. A quick introspection reveals the challenges on hand.

USA simply has to open its Eastern window, to watch how "United Kingdom, the greatest Empire on the face of this planet", was devastated and reduced to tiny fragments, by its internal forces. What Pompeo should have seen through this window is a raging battle, in which USA has an extraordinary interest, and a role to play.

The chinese misadventures with the viruses, should have immediately prompted the Secretary of State, to create a Task Force to address and contain the growing bio-engineering labs and facilities, without adequate checks and restrictions. What is the need for "bat immunity research"?

USA has spent 18 years in Iraq, but the battles are still raging, and it is yet to establish a stable government. A war is won, only when peace prevails, and normal life endures, without miltary assistance.

President Trump, and the Ayatollah of Iran are probably comitted to a contest on "gravest political blunders". Here of course, President Trump won by a good margin (with fewer blunders), but it left the world in confusion, and dismay.

The international smuggling activities of higly purified nuclear material, fit for a dirty bomb, is yet another bad news. Can the non-state actors trigger a "Nuclear War", with the "state" harboring these elements, concurrently pleading ignorance and/or poverty? The international watch over nuclear materials and their production sites, should be increased many folds, to deter these dangers.

To sumup, a large nation need not gear up to a battle, to destroy the world; and the chinese virus stands as a vivid example of this fact. NATO was effective, when the technologies had a limited reach, and only "state actors", and very large enterprises had access to the technologies. Today, the technologies had filtered down to lower layers of societies, all across the world, and this creates a broader array of challenges.

A large enterprise like the "World Health Organization (WHO)", should take the place of NATO, since security like health, is no longer limited to an individual nation, but serves as a connected tissue. The "West" would surely win, if it accomplishes this great feat.
